Thinking about trying Royal Purple in my Trans Am.

Hi all, just wanted to run a quick note by all that may be interested.

I'm thinking about trying Royal Purple 20w 50, Either the normal one they make or the racing one, in my 5L 1986 Trans Am.

I have always believed in Mineral oils changed more often in V8 Engines then synthetic's, but constant hammering from other people has led me to become interested about this particular top synthetic.

I was just wondering if anyone has any good or bad comments to make before I go out any buy this expensive oil.

no personal experience with royal purple myself since I usually use mobile 1 as it is easily available here where I am at instead of royal purple I have to order in. but it seems to go ok. as far as royal purple it seems to be a good brand as well.

the good oils as far as what I have HEARD but NOT PROVEN is royal purple, mobile 1 is taht they are good oil. but stay away from amsoil it's horrible .... sorry 57 I had to do it.... actually amsoil is a good brand to from what I have heard.

so yeah with royal purple you should be fine.

I use it in my race car. When I had the motor on the dyno I saw a 7hp average HP increase, 12" peak HP increase and it picked up 3psi oil pressure and ran about 5* cooler. I went from a conventional 10w40 to the Racing 41. Both tests were back to back on the same day and oil/water temps were identical for both pulls. The Racing oils are expensive, for a daily driver I wouldn't waste the money.

i use royal purple in my GTO, i love it. i drive 140mi a day to work and back, and changing the oil every month got to be annoying. I put 10,000 mi on it and it still looked good (changed it anyway). The car seemed to run smoother too. If you have an oil leak i would NOT recomend running synth oil because synth will find every little leak that conventional oils would not (thats why its not in my T/A). i would not waste the money on the racing oil unless that is the only thing you do with the car. You can find Royal Purple at Summit, Jegs, and Pepboys.

Royal Purple has been proven to produce hp gains of 10 or more on many applications. If your car isn't making well over 400hp and your not at the track every weekend do what rx7speed said and run mobile 1. I'm pretty sure it will give you the same results.

Mobil 1 and Amsoil did not show the HP increase of the Royal Purple, we tried 'em all. They're good products but they don't offer a performance increase like the RP's Racing line. But like was already said, the non racing formula will be better for a daily.
