305 w/ big cam

I have an performer rpm edelbrock cam sitting next to me and was wondering how it would do w/ a 305 lg4(w/ headers-performer intake-hotter coil) I even have matched springs, timing chain and all that good stuff. I do like the specs of this cam alot but is it too much? EDL-7102 on summit

Or do I put it in the pile of buildups for the 1970 350lt1 motor in the shed...

Thanks 4 the input.

It would only work if you shaved the heads to the max and decked the block to get the compression ratio up 10:1+++. Then fully ported the 305 heads and installed larger 1.94x 1.50" valves. You would want a 4.56:1 or more rear gear and a 4000-4500stall converter (8" "race" for a 305)

You'll need lots of valve spring pressure as the 305 will make peak hp at over 7000rpm . You'd be much better off with a solid mechanical cam at this point as a 305 built like this will want to rev, but that is the general build plan to make that cam work in a 305.

What he is really saying is that it's not a good cam. It is old school technology and almost absolutely worthless today. A modern cam grind will work much better.

Essentially agreed. Especially if this is a street engine. I have a similarly aggressive engine (powerband-wise), and it does NOT do the street well at all.
