My first rebuild, please help

I bolted my intake manifold on today, and I went to prime the engine before I put it in, and for some reason there is no oil coming out of the passenger side pushrods. I was waiting for the drill to catch fire, but thankfully it didn't. I've gone throught a struggle so far learning all of this, and this is just another kick in the nuts. I don't know what I possibly could've done wrong. I haven't had a chance to ask anyone at work yet, but they will probably not know. thanks

Pull the plugs for the oil galleys at the back of the block, located on either side of the freeze plug behind the cam.run a rifle brush through them,I bet you find some crud in there fouling things up.

Also, depending on how thorough your machinast was,he may have removed a plug that is located above the oil pump, can't remember the specifics, but I'm pretty sure if it was not there, you'd get no oil to the top whatsoever.

priming a SBC is pretty much a waste of time, but it makes a lot of people feel better and it especially works for people unsure of the quality of their work feel better. most likely your drill doesn't have enough *** to do it. i wouldn't worry about it and i wouldn't worry about primining the engine. the pump is primed pretty much as soon as you pour oil in the pan.

thanks for the replies, but I think I found the problem. I read that if you use a cheap primer, it doesn't have a washer to aid in getting oil to the passenger side head, so the oil just keeps going into the pan. I'm just trying to cover everything before I start it.

You need a primer that has the aluminum housing on it to mimic the distributer. This has the groove that takes the oil pressure the other side of the motor. Im not sure why they even make the primers with out it. i made my primer out of an old distributor so when its seated like a dist. you know its right. At least the bottom end is primed with yours.
