need some help please!!

Ok here is the deal. I just bout an 88 iroc 305 that has a new rebuilt 305 TPI from my friend. Car has moderate front end damage. the other day driving it home about at 15 mile drive it started to have some white smoke come up from under the hood. the temp gauge doesnt work. damn. I got home and parked it and the coolant overflow tank was totally full and pop the cap came off and coolant went all over. smelled like ****. the care has no lower air damn and the fans do work. he drove the car all the way to florida from illinios and back last summer before getting in a wreck and damaging the front end. I'm almost sure that lack of air flow from the front end damage caused the overheating? I just dont want it to be a head gasket. No coolant in the oil. changed the oil today. Car starts and runs perfect, idles fine and everything. I just gets real hot. I'm gonna tear the front clip off next week and repair it but I just want to try and rule out the headgasket possiblilty. Also, I changed out the thermostat to a 180 degree. Dumb question but I filled everything back up and ran started the car cold with the radiator cap off and within like a minute the coolant rose up and started to pour out of the radiator cap hole. Is this suppose to do that with the cap off and the car cold???? Please help. Thanks

if there's no coolant in oil, or vice versa, your head gaskets are most likely fine. I don't think thats your problem.

I think the lack of air damn, and front end damage is blocking ideal air flow.

I always thought you can leave the rad cap off and start the car cold, and it shouldn't bubble out, until the car gets hot and t-stat opens.

no chance you screwed up your t-stat or anything? might want to flush the cooling system altogether, it's a cheap way to be sure you've got a good mix in there, and nothing plugging up.
