TPI switched to Carb....now what?
I bought an 83' Pontiac Firebird with the stock 305 about a year ago. At the time i had no idea what options were for that year...or model. As time went by i began to dig into it, slowly but surely finding out that i had purchased a big *** mess.
AS i stated above the car origanally was TPI, but the owner didn't like that...i guess. So he started to hack some wires and convert her over to Carbureted. Now, one year later I'm starting to bring her around. Today i cracked open all of the wire bundles in the engine bay and started to remove all the loose wires. My question to you guys is what can i remove, sensor wise? I know he's got all of the base sensors still attached...Oil pressure, Voltage, Coolent Temp, Gas, etc.... I already took the A/C out, so what i'm left with consists of just the MAP...i think. I believe it's stationed right next to my Fuel pump relay...which is in the top right hand part of the engine bay, connected to the firewall. If i take that sensor out, will it effect my car at all?
PS...right now i'm running a 4 barrel double pumper Holley, an Accel distributor w/ a stock coil on a Weiand intake manifold. So nothing electronically fancy. Thanks Guys!

Car: Yes
Engine: Usually
Transmission: Sometimes
Axle/Gears: Behind me somewhere
The car was not TPI to start with, if it's really 83. TPI came out in 85.
Sounds to me like the car is pretty much thoroughly hacked already, and becoming more so all the time.
If you're just going to hack it some more, the best thing to do, is to start at the pass side kick panel, and locate the harness that comes out of the pass compartment from there, up next to the strut tower and over to the engine. that's the one fromt eh computer. Just remove that whole thing without cutting anything more.
All the rest of the wiring is needed. It works lights, gauges, ignition, etc. Close those harnesses up and leave them alone.

In the computer harness I believe there were two wires that lead down to the transmission. The previous owner already cut one of the wires and just applied a jumper wire into the connector. He did this so the Torque Converter would also be on...or off? So if i disengage the whole harness that leads from the computer, will my transmission be effected? One other question....could the car have been crossfire injected? I do know that it wasn't originally carbureted...so it had to be something else. Thanks!
Would you also recommend the same procedure for switching an 86 Camaro to Carbureted? By just removing the Computers harness?

ON that ECM harness I have four wires leading up to the fuel pump relay. Two of the wires lead into the main harness...the other two tie into the electrical connector for the Oil Pressure Gauge, then back into the main harness. I know that the oil press. and the relay are in a circuit together, so if they are seperated or disconnected...then i won't get any fuel. My question is how could i wire the pump relay and the oil pressure connector in a circuit without being connected to the ECM. I should just be able to create a circuit with power coming into the relay, leaving the relay and going into the oil press. sender, leaving the sender and coming back into the relay. Then finding a ground for the relay. That should do it right? Could i get the power from the fuse box? Please help, I'd like to take out that whole ECM harness, but without messing anything up!
