O.E. Roller cam endplay?
Ok got my cam installed in block and the cam looks like it is setting to far back in the block. I installed the retainer plate and the cam has about .080" endplay. The Comp cams instructions that came with the cam says nothing about endplay for a O.E. roller cam but goes on to say if its a retrofit cam the endplay should be .005". Should I tap the rear cam plug forward until I get .005" endplay? Should the endplay be checked with the cam gear installed? Thanks

So does the cam sproket rest against the cam retainer plate to control endplay?

Yes.
The retainer plate ends up sort of "sandwiched" between the large outer part of the "step" on the cam nose, and the back of the cam sprocket.
Should end up with around .010" of end play when it's fully assembled. As long as it has "some" end-play, but not "too much", it's fine; not a super-critical measurement. I'd say that .030" would be getting on toward "too much".

Thanks sofakingdom, I was hoping you would chime in. I just want to make sure everything is right with this motor before it goes in. I’m taking your advice from another post and not “assuming” anything when it comes to this build.

Good idea, that "not assuming" thing!!! I didn't recognize your ID, but I recall the post.Glad to help out and pass on what little I know about these things. It's alot easier to ask a question and get it clarified now, and find out that you're OK anyway, than to have to tear it down and re-do it later.

I was not a poster in the thread where you said that, I just took it as good advice to a newbie engine builder like myself.
