what should I do to my Z28

Alright, I have a 82 Z28 with a swapped in 350.

Its got...

4 bolt main block
flat top pistons
mild cam
882 Heads
edelbrock intake
Holley 670 Avenger carb
MSD Ignition and wires
Headers off a truck (but ppl that have seen them say they look like they flow good enough)

3:45s in the rear
2500 stall converter
700R4 tranny with shift kit (love it )
3" single pipe to Magnaflow muffler with 2 2.5" outlets

thats all I can think of...

I wanna know what the weak point would be, I know new heads would help alot, but thats too much for me right now. Another weak point is that their is no room for a decent air cleaner with the stock hood. I can only fit a little dinky one (must only be an inch and a half or so). So im thinking of gettin a cowl, or SS hood and a bigger air cleaner assembely. Would that help my performance signifigantly?

the guy I bought it from said that new heads would be the way to go, and I would want to buy "double camel hump" heads. I did some searching and have found some info on them, but cant find any online places that sell them. What would be a good alternative to the "double camel humps"?

I almost forgot. it probably runs about a 14.0 second quater mile cause I kept up with a CRX that runs 13.8s

a drop base air cleaner should work nicely.

forget the '60s technology camel humps, you'll never find a set, and when you do, the cost to get them in running condition is more then the cost of new aftermarket heads, and they're STILL 40 year old technology.

Vortec heads are fairly cheap, and will give you some go. Ported 305 heads would probably work well too (i'm running that). Then you've got things like dart heads, etc. You can get used aftermarket heads i'd imagine, people upgrade and get rid of theirs. Check the classifieds locally, and here on this board.

Find out exactly which cam you have, if you can...

Heads and cam are probably what are holding you back now (duh...).

I second the Vortec's over the Camel Humps. Hump heads were great in their day, but with modern heads like the Vortecs, you can get more for less. Old timers and Muscle car guys have trouble accepting that a modern factory head can and will out perform a camel back.

What brand and diameter Converter are you running? You should have a quality modern 9.5" converter like the Street Edge. A B&M or TCI or any other off the shelf converter is a waste of time, and will cost you on the strip. Call up Andre at EDGE Racing Converters | Welcome and he'll make a recomendation for you.
