Help!!

I recently got my first 'Bird, a 1990 3.1 L V6. I have been driving it for about two months now, and all of the sudden the car has begun to "take a dump on me". It will not exceed 2500 RPMs and after driving short distances the entire engine compartment is cookin'. My orginal thoughts was the Fuel Injectors, but I was told by a reliable source that it may be the temperature sensor....any thoughts...?

The engine compartment will tend to get hot during summer lol

What do you mean, won't exceed 2500 rpm?

This will be a guess..but I would say your exhaust is plugged and YES it could be a fuel injector running rich or a bad CTS sensor..Give us some more info?

Car: Yes
Engine: Usually
Transmission: Sometimes
Axle/Gears: Behind me somewhere
The temp sensors only DETECT heat, they don't PRODUCE it. I'd say that any source that blames a hot engine on the sensor(s), is ANYTHING BUT "reliable". So ignore that source, now and in the future.

Sounds to me like either you've got a stopped-up cat, or the timing is WAY retarded. Which could be because somebody has been dinking with it and either left the bolt loose or just plain set it wrong, or because the EST wire is disconnected (if the 6-cyl cars have that.... I haven't the vaguest clue what a 6-cyl car has for anything, sorry), or because something related to the timing such as the EST module is bad (again, if the 6-cyl cars have that).
