For those of you who have or have had bad valve seals...

I know that I have bed seals, and that they need to be replaced. Im just trying to determine if my oil consumption is just that, or something more significant. Just this past 2 months or so, my consumption has seemingly gone up. My last oil change was done about 2k miles ago, and Im already down at least 2 qts. I would slowly drop before, but if I stayed right on top of the 3000 miles interval, I was ok, and didnt need to top off.

My question: How much oil have you guys lost in what time/frame/mileage before you had valve seals replaced?

Thanks

if your valve stem seals are bad ...you usually just see the smoke on start up,after that it goes away.If you have no engine leaks, and your consuming oil more then normal then I would have say your valve guides are worn. The area between the valve stem and guide has too much play and everytime the intake opens it sucks in some oil into the combustion chamber. You might want to consider removing the heads and have them done.If you have high mileage, I would just yank the whole engine.

in my old 91 rs 305 tbi i would go through a quart of oil every 2000 miles.
hope that helps.
