So i got my car started.... lol URGENT Q'S INSIDE

figured out the starter problem... i found TDC wrong( false puff from #6 ) well i got her breaking in today. about 20 mins down @ 2000rpm so far.

she's running about 195, 200 degrees wit the fan on sitting idling @ 2k.

i know it's supposed to be hot because of the tolerances but what is too much.

you can see the engine specs in the sig.

the motor is so hot physically and the headers are so hot the the plug wires are browning and they arent even touching... i tried to move one of the wires and it singed me... they are hooot

is this normal.

I've burned a lot of wire, paint, boiled over cooling systems, turned oil to water, melted plastic wire looms, and all kinds of interesting things on cam break-ins. Fresh engines are tight, there is a lot of friction, and will therefore be a lot of heat. Holding the coolant temperature around 200° is actually pretty good.

engine running insane hot can be a result of bad timing.

ok well im very relieved now.... well i have another question but i'll put it in the cooling section as well as here.

I was told my car would run cool enough with a stock replacement radiator. well it isnt. After taking my car aruond the block( figuring out that the TV cable doesnt properly self adjust lol) i brought her back in on the verge off boiling... well shut her off, pop the hood... 30 seconds later the pressure blows a cap off the heater core take-off, showering steaming hot water into the hole in my firewall where the a/c evap used to be... lol at least i don't have an interior yet.

well is it just the tight motor running hot or should i might-as-well go back and steal the huge-mongous 4 core outta the monte?

break in is always much hotter than normal. Since you're past that now...

Driving it around the block, without long periods at WOT, a V6 rad should keep it cool. You aren't really straining the cooling system putting around.
Something is wrong. T-stat stuck, upside down, blockage in hose, etc...

okie dokey.... :sigh: well the T-stat was never changed, i just left it in the manifold. I do have an aftermarket electric fan that i think isnt pulling enough CFM but who knows. I know that the 4core works because i stole it b4 for the 350 before it fubar'd.

I have an open plenum torker II manifold i was thinking of using becuase of my 250 shot plate.... i may see what the T-stat in that looks like and go from there. I'll let you know.
