please help

this is not third gen but i really need your help. It is a 96 auto camaro z28 with 115 thousand miles. Jus bought car there was knocking/clunking noise coming from behind engine but it wasn't like a rod because it would knock..stop for a minute then start again and it didn't get any louder or faster when I revved it up. The car ran smooth and idled and shifted fine seemed to have no power loss. Earlier today i floored it from complete stop. When it shifted to second there was a popping/cracking noise and when we stopped it sounded like metal clattering. It doesnt sound like an engine knock. Im thinking maybe flexplate or torque converter what do yall think?

Since this is a site for thirdgen cars, you might do better on CamaroZ28.com.
