ecm bad?
In addition to the car running bad when I hook the scan tool to the port it will start to scan for only a few seconds. I have tried 2 different scan tools with the same results.
Remove the lower bolster trim and lower the ECM and bracket down into view.
While connected, and with the engine running or system powered, try gently tapping on the ECM outer case with a couple of fingers. That doesn't mean beat, wail, thrash, slug, or "bust its chops", but tapping with less force than would be required to break an egg. Try it on the front, back, ends, and sides. If the engine operation changes or it stumbles, or if the scanner begins to work intermittently, you may have a connection problem at the harness cables and/or within the ECM. Power everything down and start checking.
