Advice on 350 reuild.Wanting to Supercharge

Hi guys, this is my first post.I was told to check this site out from a fellow UK member, who said you guys helped him out loads!

Ive been starting to read through all the posts, but i thought i might as well post a thread of my own at the same time.

Basically im trying to work out what to do with my 350 in my 79 camaro.Basically its a stock motor,i had planned to put a few things on,but their just collecting dust at the moment.Ive got an Edelbrock EPS performer manifold and matching cam (2101),and an Edelbrock Carb.

But im in two minds about fitting it.Im thinking of putting a blower on my car next year,so im wondering what a budet rebuild would cost in order to make the motor stonger. Id want to be able to run the engine around normally once rebuilt, without the blower (whilst im saving!) Is it possible to have a low CR engine still with some grunt, but that you can put a blower on without any probs

Cheers guys

Sure. As long as you consider 230 hp some grunt.

yea, pick one or the other at the beginning. It's hard to build a dual purpose motor and have it do either job well.

A well built NA 350 can make 400HP. A well built (but $3000 more money at least) supercharged 350 can make 500-600HP without breaking much of a sweat.

How much is "enough"? Loaded question eh?
Pick now, probably based on budget, and when you want to be driving it again, then build that.

oh yea, check out NastyZ28 Home Page, they're a second gen board that might be helpful to you for all the specific 2nd gen questions you'll soon be asking. I think it's a pretty popular forum too, should be able to get a lot of good help there.

Hey,cheers for the replies guys.

I guess on my budget i need to look at making the motor better just as a NA 350,then think about blowing it when i have the cash to do it all.

Is there anything else i can add to my 350 along with the basic parts i metioned i have.Probably have around $1500 atm.

You want a blower motor to have a low compression ratio and strong pistons. You also want to run slightly larger top piston ring gaps than a N/A motor. So how do you build a motor now that you can supercharger later?

Build your 350 with forged TRW-L2441F30
-22cc D dish pistons with plans for (modded)76cc heads.
But, for now install heads from a 305 with small 58cc chambers. If you "O deck" the block your cr will be 9.1:1 with the 58cc heads and a blower friendly 7.6:1 compression with 80cc heads
(76cc heads with 4cc's removed from each chamber.)

Use your little edelbrock cam for now then switch to a street blower friendly grind like Crane Cams #113841 (F278-2)
this is a street blower friendly moderate mechanical grind just right for a 350 blower motor.

Some popular gm 76cc heads that can be ported to work well with a blower are casting 441,487,336,920.

Dart Sportsman II or Iron eagle 200cc are good too.
their 72cc chambers can be opened up to 80cc.

You want to set up your blower for about 10PSi boost on 92-94 octane for the street. low compression is the key.
