Ticking sound...again
Hey guys. I have a quick question. My car is making ticking sounds when I punch it to 65mph. If I pull over wait a few minutes, rev it hard the sometimes the sound goes away. I think it might be an exhaust leak since I had a similar problem about a month ago but I got that fixed. Could be an exhaust leak again or some other problem like tappets?
Thank you guys,

it could be your lifters.. or a lifter.... in which case reving it hard would be a pretty good way to destroy an engine if it is a lifter and it completely fails.

ahh that illusive ticking
Its a process of elimination in terms of finding what is working so you can isolate what is not...
I would look down your piping check around the bends for possible corossion on your exhaust then look at your flanges most of the time they are made of cork so they do dry out and do need replacement from time to time...
check to make sure your exhaust mani gasket hast burned out from loose bolts
then go in and tighten your exhaust bolts to proper torque specs
if it still persists then atleast you have ruled out your exhaust then you can move on to checking your valves for chatter or a dry lifter which is more work which is deeper into the motor so just try the usual suspects then go from there... hope this helps

I checked the tappets by listening to it after I've driven around at high speeds and although there is a sound its coming from the front of the engine more towards the belt near the A/C compressor. Strange I know but it appears that when I took my car in for service a month ago to have the exhaust manifold gaskets replaced, it appears that the mechanic didn't put the bracket on correctly since its missing two bolts and has no spacer.
All in all, has this sort of thing ever caused ticking noises like that found in bad tappets?
One other thing, after I drove around the noise came but when I came to a stop and idled for a minute or so, the noise pretty much went away most of the time.
