Question from a newbie

Question from a newbie

now I'm only 8mpg out of a 3.1 I've been slowly working on finding the cause of my problems we've already swapped in a new egr, vac lines, filters , and things seem to have gotten worse LOL

still only getting a code 32 every now and then

So now I am getting ready to install or have installed new injectors, cat, pulley's, and timing chain with luck this weekend

OK so heres my question

Can you please explain to me how using an compression tester
or rather doing a compression test on an engine will tell or show me
weather or not i have a bad injector???????

thanks

I don't think a compression tester will tell you if have a bad injector.. I'm thinking a compression test as in putting the tester in a spark plug hole, and cranking over the motor, and noting your compression pressure.

Perhaps you're talking about a pressure tester on your fuel system? If it leaks down then you have a leaky injector? (that what you're talking about?)

Hey, how did your plugs look in all this? i'd think one or more would look VERY BLACK, if you have a leaky injector... This might help pinpoint the problem.

Code 32 is EGR right?

OK maybe it's a pressure tester then I'm not really sure LOL
how does that work??????

at the last tomp tune up in June 1 of the plugs looked or rather told us what we already new that I'm running rich.........

? are there any cheaper 02 sensors out there that we can use b/c at $82 a pop for a stock rpl (tried several parts stores) it's killing me....

I just changed it out with the last tune up but would like to again when i put in the injectors and cat

thanks

You hook up a fuel pressure gauge to the schrader valve on the end of the fuel rail. Turn the key to the on position to pressurize the system, turn it off, then watch the gauge to see how fast the rail pressure drops.

I wouldn't deal with the oxygen sensor until you fix the code 32, which is EGR.

You say you swapped out the EGR. What exactly did you swap out? Valve? Solenoid (I think the V6's have a solenoid?)? Vac. lines?

I just about 2 months ago swapped in a new EGR unit all together and all new vac lines and the current 02 sensor is only about 4 maybe 5 months old
but I'm going to swap in a new one as soon as i do the injectors and cat

as far as the code i think I'm just going to end up on that long list cars with the 32 phantom code LOL
