oil pump help. please read

I have got the new motor in my car and when we fired it fir the first time it had no oil pressure, but the lifters did not colapse. We hooked a drill to the primer and spun it and nothing. we then spun the drill backwards for a while then went forward againand it puked a little out of the boss in the back of the block then nothing. It will do this everytime. has anyone come across this, and if so, how do i fix it.

I tired priming both my motors but never got anything. I just fire it up and there she went. Did you hook up a mechanical guage when you started the car the first time?>

You should have pipe plugs in the rear 3 bosses. Oil should be comin gout of those unnless you left them out.

No pressure at idle on the mechanical gauge. I let it idle for 15 min. and nothing, but it did not hurt the motor I dont think. 0 oil pressure for 15 min. should have casued some kind of knock or colapsed lifter.

You're sure your gauge works?

After 15 minutes did you have oil coming up through the pushrods? If so you have oil pressure.

Your suppose to pack the pump with vasoline when you install it to make it prime right the first time. With it you have 100% success every time, without, its 50/50 it will prime right before hand.
Don't use anything but it though, never grease.

a SBC oil pump will prime it's self when you put oil in the engine, some other engines need the oil pump filled to help the prime. if the engine ran for 15 minutes you don't have zero oil pressure.

But what about TMT, Slick50, and ProLong? Everyone knows if you've ever used those, you don't need to use oil in the sump. I even saw it on TV, and I'm sure it was clearly demonstrated in their FTC fraud hearings...

Where are you checking pressure?

Is the oil pickup tube and screen damaged, loose, or missing? Are you sure you put oil in it, how much? 15 minutes with no pressure is BAD. I suspect that your bearings and cam have significant wear, especially if they were new and tight.

I saw this once, helping a friend fire up his engine for the first time. Did the drill on the oil pump drive and couldn't get any pressure. Then found we were standing in 5 quarts of oil. No oil filter was installed.

When you had the drill on the pump drive, was there a decent amount of torque required to spin the pump? There should have been. You can feel it once pressure starts to build. Also the drill will slow down (unless using one of the 1/2" 2 HP models).

There are several areas that are common to lose oil pressure. The 3 plugs behind the cam timing gear may be missing. The pump regulator may be stuck open, or the retaining pin broke and the regulator piston is in the pan.

RBob.
