Car: 90 R/S camaro 3.1L stock,
new to fuel injection.

Ok gonna look like a dope here but have noticed that the 3.1 in my 90 camaro smokes when i get on it and it's sooty as heck.If it was carbed my first inclination would be bad mixture. However it's multi port and I was wonderin what the chances were of it being bad air fuel mix like injectors dumpin too much gas or not enuff air .air filters clean(paper but clean paper) and plugs are sooty as all get out.
Suggestions?recomendations?ideas?thoughts??(mines dump the 6 and brain dead the car and drop the 403 with an eddy carb i have sittin in the back yard) <<<<<me about injection

Likely it's still a mixture problem. There could be a fuel pressure problem, regulator problem, oxygen sensor problem, weak ignition, and any number of other possibilities. Checking the air filter is a good first step. There is nothing wrong with a good quality paper element air filter. They do just as well a a "performance" air filter when they are clean.
