valve spring selection please help!!

Well I was wanting to replace my vavle springs
since my new cam will over kill the stock springs.

I know that stock diamiter is 1.25" and I would like to
not have to machine my head to fit new spring
I found 3 sets of spring that look good but I
would like you opinion on the matter.

here are the ones by comp cams I'm not sure of the lift though.
eBay Motors: COMP CAMS SINGLE VALVE SPRINGS SPRING SET 1.254 981-16 (item 270048569188 end time Nov-09-06 21:39:33 PST)

and the 2 others
eBay Motors: SBC CHEVY .550 Lift Valve Springs 327 350 383 400 Z28 (item 290046216476 end time Nov-12-06 08:35:50 PST)
eBay Motors: SBC Chevy HP Valve Springs Up to 600 Lift NEW (item 320045958574 end time Nov-12-06 19:01:30 PST)

the new cam will have .520''/.540'' or .510''/.520'' lift

Thanks, JR

The comp 981's are tried test and true. Assuming this is a flat tappet cam, they should work just fine.

The others, are Elgin, and...? Valve springs are something that you don't want to get a bargin bin part, because if they fail, they break more expensive parts around them.

However my machinist just threw on a set of standard aftermarket replacement springs. A 1.25" id, 100/300lb spring is a very common need, so I think this is another case where one company makes it, sells it to everybody else, and everyone else puts 'em in their own bag and puts a label on with whatever slightly different lb-rating,(+/- 10lbs) and sells 'em.

I would be very carefull with your selection. as stated about the springs and quality is very important. I went with sdpc springs 1007. They were supplied with the vortec heads I bought good for 600 lift. The spring rating was 130 350 pressures and broke 2 in 10,000 street miles. I run 536 544 lift comp cam 276hr. Also If you dont have the valve guide to seal clearance that would become a big problem too. Aren't most stock chevy heads good for about 460 max lift? How about screw in studs? You are planing on going with alot of lift for factory stock heads. Trust me do it right the first time as it is very annoying to spend twice as much money and its alot of labor too. Use the springs your cam manufacturer suggests to keep it safe.
