Blue flames at WOT and a miss...

Me and a buddy were screwing around one night on a 2mile long road with nothing on it, no street lights, no turn offs, and no houses. Well anyways I have been having this high RPM miss. I figured it was becuase I was burning oil in the #3 cylender and it seems to oil foul the plug within 15-20miles of changing.

He was chasing me down with a stock 305 camaro, so I was obviously ahead, but the funny thing is when we stopped he was like, DUDE you had two blue torches comming out of your exhaust . He said it sounded like when ever i was WOT and it started to miss, the fire would come lol. Im going to try to get it on film tonight.

Something else I noticed was my voltage would drop from ~13.5 to 11-12 when it was missing out. I know the alt is probably on its way out, and that will be getting changed shortly. Timing is right on at 33* full in +11-12 w/ vacuum. I fattened up the secondaries thinking it was running lean, and nothing changed. The car has always felt down on power for what I have in it.

Any ideas on why it would be shooting blue flames, and popping/hesitating up top?

usually if you get it burning in the exhaust it's;

late (retarded) timing, gets it burning in the headers. Sounds like you're not doing this
rich - too much fuel, unburned, comes out the exhaust, ignites out back

If you've got a miss, that might explain why it's dumping raw fuel in there, then burning it in the exhaust.

Do you know why #3 is fouling? you could try using a hotter plug in that cylinder, as a band-aid. That'd burn off the oil, and keep it firing. Also i'd do a spark test on each plug, using a spark tester, make sure you've got a good HOT spark on each plug.

#3 seems to be fouling out from oil getting into the cylender. Im not sure exactly how its getting in there, but it does a funny thing to the plug, it only oil fouls half of it. One side it looks soot covered, the other side is oily, and flakie.

How exactly would I test the spark? Pull the plug wire/plug, and run the car grounding out the plug? Its a full MSD HEI thats got 4-5k miles. I recently changed plug wires, and they are all 1/4 away from anything. Im go out and see if I can find a pitch black place to look for arching again.

Im also wondering if its running rich due to that cylender not fireing, and jetting up the secondaries. Gas milage is going up sense I leaned out the primaries though, 15-16 mixed with the TH350 isnt too bad.

use a spark tester. Hook it up instead of a plug, and it'll show how strong the spark is.
Just to be sure you're getting a good spark, in case you've got faulty MSD stuff, etc.

only fouls half of it, sounds right. I'm drawing a blank, but that sounds "normal". Search on spark plug reading, half the plug being colored different than the other half should tell you something (I know, i'm drawing a blank here...)

I was thinking exhaust valve guide/seal went out and its letting oil in the chamber, but ill see what I can find.

Thanks for the tips.
