I have a lot of ?s HEI

Hey guys im new here so be nice but i have a lot of dumb questions

1. what is an HEI distributor. is it just a normel one like the one on my stock 305 v8. the only wires that hook up to my distributor is one to my tack and battery. is that an HEI

Yes your stock dist is an HEI, but it is a computer controlled (CC) HEI. You have a connector from distributor 4 pin I think going to your computer then the other wires you stated come into the distributor cap. On a non CC HEI that 4 pin connector from dist. goes to cap as well as your BAT and TACH wires going to cap.

well im looking to upgrade to MSD, any info on doing that. im looking for an HEI dist that looks a stock dist (not the tall looking ones). whats the point of running a ignition box like a 6AL. do i haft to have a hei dist and a ignition box and blaster coil to really upgrade my ignition. or can i buy a MSD dist like there "Extreme HEI kit" an thats all i need.

sorry for all the ?s. im kinda new to this and im really confused about upgrading. theres just so many differnt thing i could do you know

The first thing you should learn is don't spend money unneccesarily. Get a new cap and rotor for your distributer, and save the money for headers and exhaust.

Are you from Canada? Does your distributor have a vacuum canister?
