well i was just wondering what all i whould need to do to a block to get it race ready im talking like 600 hp plus, i know im gonna bore it and have it linebored but i was just wondering what whould a estimate be on it?? also whould it be cheaper to just buy a shortblock already or put one together with all the machine work. one more question does anyone sell shortblock 400 or 406 if so can i get a link?? thanks

A short fill, and splayed 4 bolt main caps with main studs on it. That'd be good for 600HP. I'd also look at H beam rods and a forged crank and forged pistons, but you only asked about the block so...

They make these needle cam bearings, they are a little more pricy than regular cam bearings but from what I hear they are worth it (NASCAR engines use them I know) Thats really the only thing I can think you can really do to a block besides making sure that all the oil passages are smooth.
Another thing to do is to have the rotating assembly internally balanced and blueprinted, huge improvements!!!
