guys i got the cam...also holley 700

ok i ordered the comp 274s sonix recomended i should be getting it today... i also bought a holley 700 4778-2 dp. and a holley strip dominator air gap.. i just hope i can get it runnin before it gets too nice out... i have all the accessories off the motor andim just about ready to pull off the timing cover...any thing i should know or do? can i leave the crank sprocket on it from the old timing chain set or should i use all new??? i figured it would be easier to get it in correctly leaving it in place... should i just make some marks as to where the old cam was and put it in the same way? or is there a better way? and just lube the hell outta the cam and lifter surfaces???

I'd use a new timing chain for sure. Unless you know it's fairly recent. A 2 piece timing cover would make life (in the future) a lot easier.
You're going to have to do it dot to dot and all that. The cam should come with instructions.
Lube the cam lobes with the supplied lube (you got new lifters too right?), and lube the base of the lifters, stab in the cam, drop in the lifters, pour EOS down the lifter holes, add oil to the engine - fire it up. Hold it at 2500RPM for 20 minutes, change the oil then drive it. All the instructions I wrote here, and much more will come with the cam.

i just used my old crank timing sprocket when i did my cam change. i'm not quite sure on how often the crank sprocket breaks. i would imagine its not all that often. but make sure you put a new chain. i got a new cam and crank sprockets with the chain but i just used the cam. it was running great that way.

You need to use a puller to get the crank sprocket off. If the new chain and sprockets are a different style (ie double roller vs single) then you'll obviously have to swap both sprockets. Otherwise it's your call.

GM EOS - some parts stores have it, GM will have it in their parts area for sure. It's a bottle of super lube. Good stuff.

After you install the cam, set your lash, then rotate it over a few times, make sure you've got clearance between the retainers and the valve seals (or valve guide boss), you want .050" clearance or so.

Yea, i'd use your known good carb for break in. Then after that swap to your new carb.

ok thanks guys... ill get the good lube.... now in the cam instructions it has me scared sayin the springs should be new and distributor gear should be new...and my springs llok all fresh and beefy???? i can barely get them to snap when i push as hard as i can...they seem and look far from stock...instructions also say that during break in you should remove the inner vave springs????? sounds silly... and i maybe need a good walkthrough on setting lash....
