LG4 Rebuild
LG4 Rebuild
I have a friend who brother in law races cars. His car is supposed to be one of the fastest and he also owns a speed shop. He is going to rebuild engine. Started as head job but he said after he rebuilds, shaves and ports the bottom end might not handle it. I am also going to go with a bigger cam. He is doing something to the bottom end. While he has it down would it help to replace the exhaust, or should I change to headers when I do that. I would like to make it true duals. Also what about stall converter?

It has been said lots on this forum but it is still good advice. It will cost you just as much to rebuild a 305 as it will to build up a 350, and the bigger engine will give you more effective and efficient horsepower and torque for free. You really need to do your homework before spending too much on your LG4. They are not a performance engine and to even get close to the power of even a standard 350 will seldom be worth the money you will need to spend.
Well, I finally broke down yesterday. He had a built 350 with a 350 turbo trans with a shift kit. It is pulling slightly over 400 on the dyno. A customer died and he was left with a engine and trans. 1500.00 and four hundred to install. It will be hooked up old way so bye bye computer. Also bye bye to pollution control crap. I am going to put high flow cats in so it looks good. How does that sound.

yeah just run 4 inch straight pipes your neighbors will love them... oh and make sure to rev it up at like 3 a.m. every few days just to make sure all the dogs in the neighborhood are awake...
Ok, took a look at engine. Its a 350. Was very impressed. Morso chrome valve covers, new heads, shaved and ported. Some kind of cam, that he said racers would know. edlebrook performance intake and Hollly dominator carb. Said he build it to run high 12's. Little over 400 hp. Comes with 350 turbo with shift kit. 1500.00. Has 3000. worth of reciepts but the guy paid for parts before he died. He showed me his car he races weekly. It is a 80's Firebird over 800 HP said last runs was in 9's. lucked out on this one! Oh yeah, has 2500 stall converter and cam has 500 lift. Anyone know what that means? Felt too stupid to ask.
