Junkyard hunting
Junkyard hunting
Well guys the other day I was down at my local U-Pull-It junk yard and I kept looking at all these 350s 305s and even 327s
(didnt have my tools otherwise that 327 woulda been mine). But I got to thinking "hmmm I really dont know squat when it comes to cylinder head casting numbers".
Well what I know is the 993 is a good SB head and the 882 is the same but junk. And that the 461-462 are the good old camel hump heads (chaching). Now it only cost me $25 for a set of heads down there. So what im trying to do is find out what sets are good to pull (dont want to waste time and money) and re-build to sell? And what vehicles they may have come in?
Thanks yalls.

882, 993, 624 are all virtually the same junk smog casting.
You're right with the others.
There really haven't been that many different SBC castings throughout the years. Other than the famed camel humps, before vortecs - there haven't really been any good castings.
305 castings are pretty good due to their small chambers, and they have meat left for porting. Kinda a diamond in the rough. But there really isn't that much selection in all actuality.
