Getting ready for summer

Hey
Should I do anything special to my can before I start driving it again?
It's been sitting without a carb all winter.
I've heard people say to leave an oil soaked rag on the carb for a few days to coat the cylinders to avoid scratching them but I didn't know if that was necessary.

Don't think I've ever heard that one. I can't see what that would do with the carb sitting on a shelf or something.

If it was me, first thing I'd do, is put the carb back on. Next, I'd fill the carb with gas through the vent. Next, I'd put a good hot battery in it. Last, I'd turn the key.

I meant after the carb was back on. so the oil would run down into the cylinders so when you turn the engine over, the pistons don't scratch the cylinder walls

Won't happen. It'll just make a puddle in the intake and gunk up the carb.

It's not necessary in any case.

But if you REALLY want to lube the cyl walls before you start it up for some reason, pop the plugs out, and shoot a shot of penetrating oil in each one.

get a breaker bar and turn over your engine a few times then remove ur distributor and get a oil pump primer and turn over uroil pump for about 5 min or just take out the plugs and just push the car in gear for a while that will lubricate the engine so u wont have a dry start
