So I've got 7 pistons and more questions...

The rest of hte questions will come later. I'm edging closer and closer to this build I've got planned. Just got me some 906 Vortec heads, tossing cams around in my head, this and that. I'm new to all of it (trying to take in as much as I can, I love this place! ) and there's lots of gray areas in my head, this is one of them.

I've got 7 brand new pistons. The 8th one got dropped and broken.

Can I just buy another one of the same model?

I ask because I did some searches and the importance of balancing the rotating assembly is played up and down by different people. I'm not gonna be racing all day long, this is a street car, but peace of mind is important to me. If the rotating assembly is THAT sensitive when it comes to being balanced, is buying a single piston from what is obviously a different production batch going to cause problems? Or are tolerances on those kinds of things usually good enough that I shouldnt have to worry about it?

Generally, yes.

Depends on what they are; but usually, no. If they're typical hypereutectics or TRWs or that sort of thing, then no, the tolerances are pretty wide. They usually need balancing anyway if you really want premium results.

Yes, if the replacement piston is the same part number is SHOULD weigh the same. A $20 digital postal scale that can read in grams is a handy thing to have around when you're playing mix-n-match with different parts from different places. A good machine shop can help you out if the replacement has a slightly different weight than the others.

IF it matters it's one of these:

Not really sure if that makes it a "Typical hypereutectic" or not... But Im guessing yes.

I guess I'll just get the whole thing balanced anyway. It aint cheap but peace of mind is a nice thing to have. But I'll see if I can weigh them all first.
