serpentine belt problem

I have a friend who has a 90's camaro and his ac compressor is locled up and the belt is burning and he can't drive the car.
Is there anyway to bypass the ac so he can drive it till he can repair or replace the compressor.

What can he do to make it drivable.

Re: serpentine belt problem

Sounds like his clutch must have locked up and the compressor is shot too. Be about as cheap as anything to put on a junkyard or rebuilt compressor. Don't have to recharge the system just for driving. The clutch will spin free so the belt won't burn.

Based on this picture

I think you may be able to route the belt over the tensioner instead of under, and skip the AC compressor and run right to the smog pump to get around it temporarily but that would require a new belt and it may not clear the AC pulley. Might be easier to do the junkyard AC thing.

I never have good enough luck,I'm trying to help him and he has worse luck than me it seems.
I don't know if over the tensioner will work, the pulley seems like it's in the way, i'll have to look at it again.
