601 head questions

I've searched every last thread and found too many ported flow numbers for the 601 heads.

I have yet to find stock number for the 601 heads. Or 601 heads with 1.94 valves and unshrouding done.

Do any of you know where these numbers are?

Also. Would getting a set of 601 heads done up with absoluetly no porting, just the bigger valves and unshrouding be a good idea for a very mild 350 setup, with a mild comp cam 256.

Or should i just go for some bolt on world s/r heads?

Money-wise. The 601's would save a few hundred bux. But would I be more happy with the worlds?

Keep in mind, I will be matching the pistons to the heads, for a 9.5 compression.

Thanks!

Re: 601 head questions

Who cares?

They're CRAPPY, as-cast. That's all you need to know. That's not the point. Get a set and put the 350 intake valves in em and work em, then they'll get those numbers you see.

Actually the 601s aren't all that crappy in stock form. 215/130 @ .500" lift

Stock form? Hmm, does that mean using the 1.84/1.5 valves? That's about what world quoted me for the s/r heads with the 1.94/1.5 valves.

do you know if the 601's had 2 different castings?? because i've heard that some where 52cc chamber and some where the 58cc chamber. Would there be any flow differences in these? Or just a bigger chamber? Or were there only one size chamber?

Re: 601 head questions

Ok...Riddle me this.

Everyones been saying go big or go home...

Now if i'm thinking correctly, and please correct me if i'm wrong, but:
Since i'm using stock TPI, which IIRC only flows around 200cfm, in stock form, wouldn't it make sense to go with heads that flow in the neighbor hood of 200 +10-20 cfm? ? I don't know? Just wondering.

Also. Since it is TPI, doesn't TPI like low-reving high velocity air?? which in real world terms, = torque? So i.e. having a head with 155-160cc runners that flow around 215 cfm have a higher velocity than heads with 170-180cc runners that flow 215 cfm? So it would only make sense to go with the heads that have the highest velocity, which will make the most torque. ?

Also, since this will be a daily driven setup, I won't be reving past 2500-3000 grand, and the main reason for the higher cfm and such is for high-revving horsepower, or top end?
With that in mind. Keeping the stock 1.84/1.5 valves would be plenty and suit my needs?Am I thinking correctly, or what's goin on here? I've read way to many pages and the information is probably just boiling in my brain.
