Yet another "which cam" question!
I'll be home for a few weeks on leave from the army, and I want to take my car to the track. I'm going to put a cam in it while I'm home, but i don't know how much cam I'll need. I don't have the $$$ for a higher stall converter/bigger carb/good heads right now. But I don't want to take my car to the track, just to see my same old 14.7's
Here's what I've got:
67-70 327-350 heads (don't know the specs)
edelbrock 600 carb
rpm air-gap manifold with a 1" spacer
flowtech shorty's to 3" single exhaust
700r4 with a shift kit, stock converter
3.73 posi rear
I wanted to go with a summit cam to save money, but I can spend a little more. This will only be temporary (I'll go bigger when I put heads on it) So I don't need a $200 cam.
Thanks

Re: Yet another "which cam" question!
I just always call the cam company Im buying from(I only use comp cams) and tell them what I have and what Im looking for. They have not steered me wrong yet.
I know I get tired of seeing the same numbers when I go but then I realize that if I do things backwards that I waiste more money than needed. I would look into better heads before I would a cam, but thats my opinion.

The Summit kits at $63 are certainly cheap enough to buy now for the heck of it. The 214/224 - 112 would probably be your best pick from that bunch. I've run that grind (an Alliance Cam) in a basically stock 305 back in the 80s and it wasn't that bad. It ought to be pretty peppy in a relatively stock 350.

How much you actually pick up from the swap will depend on what's in it now and how well you can retune the carb and ignition curve for the swap.
Best of luck with whatever you do.

But it's hard to justify spending >$1000 on something that sits in a garage 3000 miles away. I'm just looking for something to do for the time that I'm at home.
