EGR/Heads
I'm a little confused guys and need some help.
Do Vette L98 Heads have the heat crossover for EGR?
Does it plumb the EGR externally than through the head?
If it does, then why can't I purchase heads without the heat crossover and plumb the EGR externally and make them work and stay emission legal?
I had intended to use E-Tec heads on my motor but I just purchased a complete AS&M Intake package and will have to stay with non-vortec style heads. I want aluminum but the only ones I can find that actually say they are emmissions legal are the Trickflow and Edelbrock basics (166CC runner).
What are the other options if you know?

The aluminum headed Vette L98's didn't have the cross-over passage, so it was externally plumbed to get exhaust gases up to the intake base.
In order to be "technically" legal, you'd have to equip it like an '89-'91 Vette L98. If you use heads that would be considered emissions legal replacements for that vintage, then you would be alright.
I can't give you any more specifics about what heads would work. But, I doubt you'd have any problems with those heads. Even bigger heads than the stock replacement Edelbrocks.

Re: EGR/Heads
Do a search for posts by me with the words "aluminum" "corvette" and "EGR passage" in them from the last few months. You'll see the pictures I have posted of the stock Corvette EGR system, and what I did on my engine.
This board wont let me upload the same pics twice.

Re: EGR/Heads
Ok so if I purchase heads that does not conatin the heat crossover I can make them EGR compliant with the external plumbing from a vette? I see all of the heads with EO numbers but I really don't think that is that important in Texas. Still reading through your post Kevin, thanks again guys.

Re: EGR/Heads
OK, seeing what you did Kevin and seeing how the vette egr system works. A few more questions.
Technically couldn't you run pretty much any standard head regardless of heat crossover?
I understand it is still not emmissions compliant but I won't have to pass the sniffer just make it look like the system works.
It is possible I see that you can turn off the egr system when burning a chip correct?
So if I have all of the egr items and airtubes hooked up with cats on my car it will look like it is still compliant even thouigh the system is disabled?
The reason for all of the questions now is I was planning on using the E-Tec 200 heads (they have the heat crossover) but since I bought a standard bigmouth intake I need to go with a normal style head and not a vortec. I do not want to spend more than a grand on heads and want to go aluminium if possible ( understand I may have to go TFS or AFR to stay compliant but they are both 1200-1500).
What say you the powers of TGO.
