cluttered mess
just got my camaro, a 86 carbed 305, its a huge clutter ****, i have been replacing vac line after vac line and have run into some stuff. first off, is the carb-tank canister deal neccessary? the vac lines were shot, was gonna take it off if it didnt need to be there. and then is the canister control valve {the dealy with a bunch of the vac lines running to it} supposed to just hang there?or is there something i'm missing?
thanks -n- advance

Welcome to thirdgen.org and the 3rd gen family.
The vapor canister vents the tank and collects fumes from the carb. All that control stuff makes sure the fumes are sucked out and burned when the engine can best handle it. The control valve, believe it or not, just hangs there by the hoses.
I've often considered moving the valve over by the canister by changing tubing lengths to help clean things up at the front of the engine, but I've never gotten around to doing it.

Re: cluttered mess
will there be any ill effects if i take that vapor canister off, assuming its not working anyway cause the vac lines are gooooooone, or will my engine run better with it properly working?
