Royal purple and flat tappet cams?

I have a older 350 in my firebird, and it has a flat tappet cam, I need oil with more ZDDP additive then todays regular 10w-30 which has about 600 when I need 1000 or more. dont need my cam wiping, lol.

The valvoline Vr1 oil has 1200 PPM per quart which is what I need but I have to order it, Ive heard good stuff about royal purple and I can buy it around me

Anyone know the Zinc content in their 10w-30 grade?

Re: Royal purple and flat tappet cams?

A buddy of mine just got done breaking in a motor with Shell Rotella T Diesel oil. Diesel oil has a higher amount of zinc in it and is good for breaking in cams. Royal purple is too expensive in my opinion to be used as a break in oil, seeing as you will be changing it out shortly anyhow.
