carb swap ?

i have a q jet carb on it know it is junk so i bought a eldelbrook 600cfm i want and need to intsall this but i just had a thought so i figured i would ask before i tear down and then cant figure out why it wont start after i install the edel. The q jet has an electric plug on the front drivers side of it, the edel doesnt will this cause any ignition prob if i disconect and cut the wire off to clean up with the instal of the other carb. my HEI is not a vacume advance it is electronic if i remove the conection on the q jet will my car still run. and is 600cfm too much carb for a stock 5.0 if that is what my motor is.

Re: carb swap ?

okay first the carb swap... yes i think you will have problems but they can be solved by getting a new dist. that is vaccum/mech. advanced

then for the ever incesent question is it a 350... well www.mortec.com
has pretty much all of the SBC casting numbers

the casting number it self is located on the driverside you have to look between the engine and the fire wall there is a ledge on the block about 1 inch wide that will have the number on it might need some engine degreaser and a flashlight to see it even then it will be very hard to make out... requires some creative guessing

Re: carb swap ?

The Quadrajet is a better carb than that Edelbrock.

As above, you'll need to replace the distributor. The car will "run", but it won't be happy.

Re: carb swap ?

youre getting yourself into a kinf od a mess if you dont know what the ESt/CCC system is and how it works

if you put the edel carb on youll have to get a non CCC dizzy and remove the EST/CCC system harness and the ECM too

it is stand alone all on the pass side of the car

its pretty straightforward and simple for someone like me only takes about an hour to totally convert over to non ECM but ive done it a million times

but i dunno what your abilities are though

the edelbrock will use alot more fuel than the Q jet did and is generically tuned and jetted out of the box and will require some modifications to make it work in the car including choke wiring and accelerator linkage work and so on

Qjet is indeed the best tuned and efficient,

is is a larger CFM carb than the edel but is jetted alot more efficiently, more air and less fuel

good luck
