help
i have a 91' camaro that i wrecked i then got an 87' that had a 350 trunk engine dropped in it.my altenator was squealing pretty bad so i put the brand new one off my 91' ( had a 305 ) on it but i didnt notice that the fan on the altenator hit the bracket and didnt spin. i test drove it and it drove fine then i died and wouldnt restart. i finally got it restarted then started dying while shifting from 1st to 2nd gear. then it drained my battery i finally got it charged up again but its still drainign fast and the car idles real rough and stalls real bad in any driving gear ( reverse or drive) changed the fuel pump, and all wires seem to be connected nice and tight, could this be the timing chain?

Re: help
i would check the plugs
might have fouled one or a few of them
is the choke opening up for you ?
make sure its open
timing chain causing it ?
no i dont think so
is there any backfiring and dying at the same time ?
if so then it is possible it could possibly be the timing chain then
you can easily check chain slack by grabbing the crank pulley and turnign it carefully til you hear the chain take all the slack up, you should be able ot slightly hear it too
then rotate the crank the other way til it does the same thing
if its more than a few degrees than i would probably replace it then
but its nothing that would have been caused by the alternator fan being jammed on the bracket
this would be ignition/fuel issue
i would start with plugs inspection if they are anything besides light gray or tan and dry then something is not right in how it has been running
if they are dark or black or wet or oily or smelly then you have problems in carb/ignition, or oil getting inside the cylinders
or you may just simply not have the right heat range of plugs
it should have R45 or R46 plugs
good luck

Re: help
That means it is not burning the fuel properly, Are you sure youre choak is opening? that will cause some of the problems you are explaining. I don't know about the drained battery (maby the alt is hooked up wrong).
