Custom from scratch setup help
Background...1980-84 olds 307 in a 87 bird. EVERY wire in the car removed, all "unecessary" equipment removed.
I have 3 wires from the starter, 1 from the dist.
The car turns over when I touch the 3 starter wires to a power wire. I couldn't let it fire up because it's late and it's loud as ****...
So my question, will it stay running after I disconnect the wires?
What else do I have to do to keep it running after it starts? I'm running those wires to a switch, the car will be operated by toggle switches, any help is appreciated

Re: Custom from scratch setup help
Unnecessary stuff like the right ignition wiring eh?
-You need power to your distributor so you have spark plugs lighting
-You need power to your starter (BIG wire, and BIG post)
-Then you jump power to your solenoid to get it to "kick" into the flywheel/flexplate (small wire on the little tube piggybacking the starter)
-Then I think the 3rd wire tells the starter when to go. For some reason i'm only remembering the 2 wires...
Anyway, that big wire that goes to the starter? It's also going on to the rest of the car, ie- the ignition. So as long as you keep power to the ignition, then you should be able to remove all the wires from the starter.
I'd look at the wiring diagram for your car, and try to duplicate it, that'll let it work best on a day to day basis.
An olds 307 in an '87 bird? May I ask what motivated you to do such an oddball swap? Some wise old member on here might say "lots of maze, not a lot of cheese".
