How to check your timming

Ok i know my timming is off but how do i go about checking it i have a built 350 sbc carbed with a vac adv hei distributer and i would just like to know what the timming should be at or at least what mark should it be at on my timming tab. the tab has these numbers 10 8 6 4 2 0 2 4 what mark should the hormonic balincer be pointing at i dont have any fancy timming light just one that has no adjustments Help

i would start at about 6* adv, the 3rd number from the left. and go from there till it runs how you want it.
