How to disassemble retrofit link-bar style lifters
Hi guys, I bought a set of older Speed Pro retrofit roller lifters (the traditional slide a link type). I wanted to disassembled one of the lifters to see what the internal condition is. It has the typical c clip to take the lifter piston out. BUT the pin sticking through the top of the lifter body, to mount the link bar, is in the way of taking the piston all the way out.
How do I get the pin that holds the link bar to the lifter body out? I have a shop press. It looks like the pin is two pieces -- an inner pin and a larger outer pin. Do I just press the inner pin out of the outer pin, towards the center of the lifter body? The only reason I was a little afraid to try this is the end of the inner pin, where I want to press, looks slightly peened (maybe not though and it's just a rounded end). I would much rather not inspect these and run as-is than break one!
