Spark Plug Wires

So I could only use 7 of my 8 8.8mm performance plug wires and had to go buy a new 8mm standard plug wire to replace the one that didn't fit because I went from manifolds to headers. Well the paint on the header pipe where the cylinder is that I am using that new 8mm plug wire is not as discolored and worn in as the other 7. I felt the plug wire on the plug and pushed it in, it snapped as if it was not in place. Do you think that would cause this to happen or could it be deeper problems?
