Power Steering

Since I dont need power steering for a track car, can I just keep the power steering box on and run a piece of hose from one of the lines to the other, getting rid of the pump entirely? Im aware it will be hard to turn the wheel when stopped, its not a problem and I dont have a manual steering box, or the time to go to a junkyard and find one.
