No fire to the injector, whats the problem?
Hi. I have a '89 IROC-Z with 5.0 V8 TPI. There is "fire" going in and out the distributor (which was just replaced) and there is fuel pressure. There is NOT "fire" going to the injector, therefore, the car rarely cranks and when it does, it doesn't go far before the car dies. Could someone please tell me what the problem may be? Thanks!
Re: No fire to the injector, whats the problem?
a buddy of mine had a problem like this although it was on a truck with a tbi. After I shot wires for about 30 mins I found a spot on the wiring harness that looked like it had been pinched two wires where about pinched in half. it was at the back of the engine and looked like they might have been caught when the transmission had been taken out. I cut out the bad spots and soldered in fresh wire and it fixed the problem. Just a idea.
They also make test lights you can plug into your injector harness and have some one crank the engine. It will flash it its getting fire.

How did you come to the conclusion that there is no "Fire" to the injectors? Have you checked the fuel pressure?
If the fuel pressure is good, I would say you may have a shorted injector or injectors
If fuel pressure in low, I would check for a clogged fuel filter or dying fuel pump, maybe a bad regulator.

did your dad make sure that the pressure was at 44 psi or just that it was flowing and asumed it was good pressure. common mistake. the 44 psi is after the regulator before the injectors. the fuel pumps seem to be an issue at this age of our cars, yours could be going out.
