Please help!
Please help!
I don't know if this is the good forum but I really need help. Ok I need to download a manual for 1985 TransAm but the engine in there is a 1978 350 5.7 L 4bolt. Here is the thing: I want to unbolt engine and transmission to work on them during winter in garage. I want to also take out all other parts that are new and just scrap body cause it's too rusted. I need all the help in anything that is manuals cause I have to do this before mid of November 2007. I am to order a engine stand with bolts from Summit + I got the place to buy the compressor. All opinions and requests for picture of that car are appreciated

Re: Please help!
Why not just buy the Haynes for the 3rd gen Camaro? The engine won't matter, SBC is SBC is SBC, same sh*t different pile.
It's a lot easier dragging the $20 book into the garage than the $1500 computer....

Really? Ok, but is F-body going to be F-body even though Pontiac made mines?

You have a 1985 Camaro with a tiny Pontiac emblem on it. After 1979 or so it was all corporate stuff. It's pure chevy.

Hey, you know in a few words how to tell me to unbolt engine and transmission from my TransAm? Also I would appreciate if you can inform on a site or way to convert to manual this car with a exchange for the old automatic transmission.

Re: Please help!
Pulling both out? Pull them out together then.
Same as any other vehicle (which means if this is your first time pulling an engine, get some help...)
-Unbolt driveshaft, remove and set aside.
-Remove any wiring from engine->car. Distributor, starter, alt ground, cylinder head ground, temp switch, temp sensor, etc.
-disconnect fuel lines, power steering lines
-Drain all coolant
-remove engine mount bolts.
-disconnect shifter
-put a jack under the tranny
-remove tranny cross member from frame, and from tranny mount, set aside
-unbolt torque arm from tranny, remove any wiring from tranny
-disconnect Y-pipe, or exhaust manifolds
-Probably want to remove accessories first, alt, PS, waterpump mounted fan...
Connect cherry picker to engine your favorite way, (carb lifting mount, etc). Lift out engine and tranny.
It's a bit involved as you can see. Just don't drop it on yourself, and make sure nothing else is holding it in place while you're lifting it.
