Yes, that's the right one.....

for the gauge sending unit.

The fan switch goes in the exact same place, in the other head; which ends up, between the #6 & #8 plugs.

What will happen now, is that the gauge will read absolute zero, until such time as the fan switch tries to turn the fan on, at which point the temp gauge will peg at full scale. And of course, whatever was wrong with the fan before, if anything, will still be wrong with it.

OOooopppssss...

Re: what did i do?

well here is the update....

i changed the right switch this time and the fan is coming on correctly this time!... how ever i do have a question. the switch that i got is from hypertech. it says that it will come on at 176 degrees and off at 166. now according to the temp gage it is coming on at about 220 and off at about teh 180 mark. could my temp gage be off and that is why it is not coming on sooner? should i replace the old gage with a new aftermarket one?

What year is your car? The cooling fans in the 90-92 cars are partly controlled by the ecm, so the different switch may not necessarily change when they turn on and off. If you do get that Hypertech switch to function properly, you'll want to run a 160 degree thermostat. If you run anything hotter, your fan will run constantly because the switch and the thermostat will be fighting each other. I tried running a switch that kicked on at 186 degrees with a 195 thermostat, and that was the result. I had to put a 180 thermostat in to get the fan to cycle on and off. The single fan setups rely only on the switch in the head, but the dual fans are partially controlled by the ecm. If you go to the cooling forum, there's a really good tech article there on how to set up the fans to work the way you want them to. The best way to do it is to completely bypass the factory fan controls and install the Hayden adjustable fan control switch (part#3647).
