Cranks and Cranks but no start plus more....
So I will try to make this a short as possible. I havent driven the car in 2 years. I just did the auto to T5 swap and bam it started on the very first try after two years of sitting. Then i had a timing cover leak, went to fix it and I dropped a bolt in the cover had to pull the more etc. I reset the timing and sure thing it starts first try again. Then I had to pull the tranny, and I re-assemble everything and now it wont start. The first time I tried I set the timing way in advance and a flame shot out of the carb, this means I have spark right? Well I reset the time straight up and it just cranks and cranks for ever. So I replace the ingnition module and coil, and test to make sure I have voltage at the distributor and it still does the same thing. So I start playing with the coil wiring and when I turn the key all my power goes out. The interior lights, noises, etc. are all gone. So I crossed my wiring somewhere, which fuses did I blow? and Why wont the darn thing start in the first place? Thanks for the help.

the car was running and you had a timing cove leak, you dropped a bolt in the oil pan? what made you mess with the timing and what exactly did you do?

Yes the distributor is spinning. As far as the bolt goes. I had to take the distributor out when I pulled the oil pan out because I had to lift the engine about 5 inches out of the bay and I didnt want my distributor to get smashed on the firewall. I forgot where I had the distributor stabbed so I spun the motor over to #1 and set the timing again. I shorted out my coil playing around with the wiring like and idiot so I have whole new distributor on the way (cost as much as a new coil). I am really starting to think the engine is just flooded really badly, however I changed the plugs think this may have been the problem and still no spark. I think I will be able to get it fired up once I get the new distributor, my real worry is which fuse(s) did I blow to kill the interior lights and ignition switch. Thanks guys.

Most likely the fusable links by the starter. There are two which supply power to the entire car.

Oh, I didnt think about them. Now that I think about it I hope the original owner of the car didnt chop them out because he hacked up most of this harness before I got it. You wouldnt happen to know what size they are would you?

When you spun it over to #1 on TDC was it the compression or exhaust stroke?
I have made that error and they won't run that way.

should have been the compression stroke, I pulled the #1 plug and turned the motor over until air came out. I am waiting for my new distributor to come in and then I will check the fusible links and such and try again. Thanks for the help.

I agree, your dizzy is probaly 180 out. The power thing could be as simple as your battery cables not tight enough.

Yeah, it could be that its 180 out, however the power thing is for really I crossed two wires at the coil by mistake.

I was referring to what cooter26 said about my distributor being 180 degrees off and my power problem being the battery cable. There are three wires coming out of the distributor, 1 is positive, 1 negative and I dont know what the other does. I accidently flipped the positive and negative and when I did all my lights when out.

Ok, quick update:
I changed the fusible links and a couple of fuses under the dash and I know have power again. My distributor has not arrived yet, but I plan on trying to start the car tomorrow before I head out of town. Thanks again for the help.
