Are my AFR heads too big for my combo?
Are my AFR heads too big for my combo?
My current setup is:
355ci
Comp Cam, 230/236 duration @ .050", .510/.520 lift
AFR 195 cc heads
Performer RPM intake
Demon 750 carb
1.6 roller rockers
10:1 compression ratio
Do you think my 195cc heads are too big? I haven't really found a similar combo with those heads/cam. Thanks.

that lil SHlT is gona revvvvv! u better be ready for 6000-7000 rpm peak power wit that cam too
Re: Are my AFR heads too big for my combo?
Below 2500 she'll be a little soggy, but so will your cam. It's a reasonably well matched combo from the specs you posted. From 3000-up it's gonna rip.
If you're running an automatic I assume you will choose a converter with a stall speed to match the rest of the combo (2500 minimum, 3000 preferred).

I'm sure it'll be fine. On bigger cams we've put 210s on 355 with no issues.

Pretty similar to my combo... 357ci, 200cc World heads, XE274 cam (230/236 flat tappet), 10:1 CR, 750 Holley DP, MSD ignition. Haven't tried it yet at the track, but it does run and drive pretty nice.

Great setup for your combo, the compression will help keep it from being too soggy down low with all that duration but i agree that around 2500-3000 the cam should come on very hard. I have a cam with 235 duration and much less compression and right at 3000 it just screams.

Re: Are my AFR heads too big for my combo?
i'll be using those AFR 195 heads on my 383 build and a larger roller cam than that 230/236. Those 195cc AFR's really fit the bill for hot 350's and most all 383 builds as well as mild to street/strip 400's.

Re: Are my AFR heads too big for my combo?
When I was a 355....I ran the same cam I have in my 383 the 276hr 224/230 with AFR 195 heads and no problems...I had issues with other things like road bearings....which led to the 385 i currently have with the same cam

Damn near the same combo I have been running for the last 7 years or so. Runs great, and yes..she will scream up top. Just sold my heads to step up to the new 195 Eliminators.

Re: Are my AFR heads too big for my combo?
I am running the AFR Eliminator 195s (62 cc chambers) on a stock displacement 350 short-block. Check my sig for other mods; there is no lack of power anywhere (that a modded TPI can support) in the RPM range.
