Ventilator Valve Assembly

Hey i have a 91 camaro v6 and i was recently changing out the fuel pump... i ran into a problem when i came to disconnect the fuel lines. i was removing the ventilator valve assembly and broke off the plastic that the hose attaches to on the assembly, so now i have no way of putting it on besides buying a new one or pulling one off the junkyard. i was wondering what this piece did and what it would do if it was not attached. i recently purchased the car so im still trying to find out how the car runs since it had been sitting with a bad fuel pump for awhile. thanks any info would be great

AFAIK, it doesn't technically "Vent" the fuel tank. I suppose it might if a ridiculous amount of pressure built up, but it lets the tank suck air in when it needs it, IE, using fuel, or vapor condensing due to colder temperature.

I can tell you one thing about this valve. If it is bad you will fail california's evap part of the smog test.

Re: Ventilator Valve Assembly

You need it for the car to run. The gas cap is not vented. So the tank will collapse if the vent is plugged. The valve also allow a little pressure to build up in the tank from evaporation. This evaporation is collected in the canister.
