Smog help...

Well Im trying to get my car to go through smog and ran into a ton of problems today, first and formost my CO levels where super high, and the more I try to advance the timing the more blue the smoke out the back gets (a no no I know) but heres the results from the smog people as of right now first my HC where off the charts and when I got that under control the CO did its thing anwho heres where I sit right now..

HC STD (standards for my state) 220

CO STD 1

Dilution (min) 6

Mine

HC 326

CO 11.523

CO2 7

So my dilution is good and my HC is almost in the green but what about my CO? What can I do to fix that and as far as my Hydrocarbons go what can I do to bump that into where it needs to be as well?

Re: Smog help...

If you still have the stock emmissions on the car check the air tube where it connects to the cat', thats where mine always corroded through. The other thing is the smog air pump itself, there is a filter inside that turns to crap after enough years go by.

Yup single cat brand new (well 7 months new) as far as the smog equipment there wasn't any when I bought the car on it (there is no visual inspection where I'm at right now) but the funny thing was that my hydrocarbons where super high (2085) and my CO was at .24 the first time I went through (dont pass dont pay and you can test as many times as you would like even the same day) so to make a long story short I dont know what I did to the damn thing to make the CO shoot up like that but I was adjusting the Idle screws on the carb (edelbrock 800cfm carb the engine is a 400cid with Rpm airgap intake headers out to a 3 inch exaust and as for spark its all msd with a digital 6 plus box) anywho I dont know what to do if I should jet the carb or what so I figgured I would try to get some adjustment ideas.

See Im having an issue with that Ive taken the screws as far out as they will go without taking them all the way out and Im not sure if it is ok to run them without the screws on (I unscrewed it until it came out while the engine was running mind you) and I took the timing back so far that I couldn't drive it and caused me a ton of problems just yesterday where it wouldn't run at all when it did start it shot up to 3k rpm and wouldn't go down. Anyways I got it running right now but unless I can remove the screws then I dont see it getting any more lean. I can try to take the timing back some more but I dont see why my CO shot up like that.

Re: Smog help...

knock back the fuel pressure under tech articles on the home page there is one about making the stock fuel pressure regulator adjustable. co2 is from an inefficient fuel burn I believe so do plugs and wires also a fresh air cleaner will lean it out a tad
