serpentine set up swap
hello everyone i have an 86 iroc with the vbelt set up and i want to swap to the serpentine set up so i can run a procharger kit later on, so my question is what accessories will i need? i have the two brakets with the power steering pump, the ac delete pulley, alternator. i have to get a 88-92 water pump right? can use the same bolts from my vbelt set up? what size belt? and what about the alternator wire is there any adapter for that? any help would be appreciated

Re: serpentine set up swap
I honestly wouldn't do that swap unless I had EVERYTHING right in front of me. I would go to the wrecking yard and pick up everything at once, including bolts.
You can go to partsamerica.com and check if the accessories will swap.

Re: serpentine set up swap
I did this swap on my 83, it actually wasn't that hard. I pulled all of the brackets, bolts, and accessories from a junkyard car. You will need the following:
Serpentine brackets
Alternator
Alternator plug (it's different than the vbelt one)
A/C Compressor (you could probably just change the pulley on your existing one)
A/C Lines, the ones that go from the compressor to the accumulator
Smog pump
Power steering pump
Water pump (serpentine water pump spins opposite direction)
Crank pulley
All bolts and studs
Optional parts:
Electric fan
Fan shroud, to mount the electric fan
I also swapped in the single electric fan from the donor car while I was at it, but you could keep the clutch fan if you really wanted. Since the alternator and A/C compressor switch sides, youll need to use the shorter A/C lines from the donor car, and extend the alternator wires. The alternator is totally different, the v-velt one won't work. I used the donor alternator as a core for a rebuilt one. The alternator plug is also different, so you have to wire up the new one. You may also have to extend the A/C compressor clutch wires, but I don't remember for sure. The water pump is different, on a vbelt car it spins the same direction as the crank, on a serp car it spins the opposite direction. I took the water pump from the donor car and used it as a core on a rebuilt one. Im pretty sure the power steering pump is the same, and you could re-use your existing one if you changed pullies. I just used the one from the donor car because it was in good shape.
All in all, its a totally bolt on deal, except for having to extend and rewire a couple of things. I did it in a weekend, which included the time it took to pull the parts from the junkyard. I also did notice that the engine seemed much smoother without the vbelts and clutch fan, I would do the swap again in a heartbeat.

Re: serpentine set up swap
I don't remember the wire colors off the top of my head, but I think it was a simple as matching the colors. I'm not 100% sure though, I'd have to head out to the shop and look at the car to be sure.
