Need Help - Soleniod
I am trying to help a friend who knows nothing about cars. Unfortunately he is 200 miles away.. Can someone post a photo of a starter solenoid showing location?
The car being worked on is am 87 T/A with LB9 engine, I am asuming th solenoid is about the same for all gen 3 cars.
Thanks

Re: Need Help - Soleniod
It's part of the starter, which is on the bottom of the motor, pass side, just in front of the place where the trans bell housing meets the engine.
Usually when the solenoid goes bad, it makes more sense to just replace the starter. The whole starter only costs about $15 more than the solenoid; you have to remove and disassemble the starter to replace just the solenoid, then re-install it (more work than just changing the whole thing out); and odds are, whatever the problem is, the solenoid isn't the cause anyway.
Rather than look for pics of a solenoid (which you can get off of www.partsamerica.com or something), tell us what the car is doing, and maybe we can point you in the right direction and save you from a wild-goose chase.

Re: Need Help - Soleniod
Long story short, he bought the car 2 years ago, and he wif wants rid of itso he offered it to me. All I know is that whn the key is turned "Nothing happens"
My initial thoughts are:
Battery
Solenoid
Ingition switch
Starter (less than a year old)
Neutral ctrl switch
My thoughts are to start with Jumper cables, and once battery is ruled out, have him jump out the solenoid. This will rule out starter and verify that it is just a switch or wiring problem. It ran a week ago with no problem. I am not sto concerned with a permanent fix as I am with knowing I can get it started just to drive from Atlanta to Charlotte.
Keep in mind, My trouble shooter has no idea what 90% of this post means!
