The block is a mark v standard bore low compression 454. I can get a hold of some 336781 heads for relatively cheap. The motor is being converted from it's stock TBI to a holley 750 vs and a cheap summit aluminum intake good from idle - 6000. Headers are a possibility for the future but as of now, I plan to just run some stock style manifolds. What cam would be good for this relatively cheap setup and about how much power can I expect to make?
It's difficult to put Mark IV heads on a Gen V block. The coolant passages don't line up properly.
Rough guess from what you've said, I'd put it somewhere in the 300-350 HP range at best. In stock trim, the Gen V 454 with peanut port heads is only rated at 250-260 HP.

Well, i just got my Victor gaskets for the head conversion. I was able to actually set the mark iv head on the block already and from what I could tell it lined up ok, I just need to get some carbonless paper to find out for sure, otherwise just braze some extra material on the heads.
Would a CompCams 265DEH or something similar be an ok cam?
