Re: Fuel pump

gph=gallons per hour=the pumps ability to move fuel. If you go to a parts store, tell them your year, make, model, and theyll probably ask if its tbi, tpi, carb. I dont know what you have, but they'll be able to help you out. Unless your looking for aftermarket..like if you have mods. But it sounds like your probably stock

You will have -10 Hell installing the electric.. But in my book, mechanical was always more reliable.

Re: Fuel pump

well, mechanical is engine driven,so, in theory electric would be less of a paracitic load, even though a mechanical pump wouldn't put much load on an engine anyway. Electric pumps also will put out much higher pressure, which is why theyre used with fuel injection. For your application, you would be best with a stock replacement mechanical pump. A mechanical pump is much easier to replace when it fails, since it's right on the front of the block. An electric pump you will have to drop the fuel tank, which means disassembling the whole rear end of the car. Why do you want to go aftermarket? You wont be gaining any power or anything. The system requires a specific pressure, for your system you need somewhere around 5-7 psi which isnt much. Any more and you will run really rich. My 79 camaro came with an electric pump installed, but it totally doesnt need it. Its actually pretty noisy.
